www.reuters.com/article/filmNews/idUSTRE5230MH20090304Megan Fox lines up comic-book movies
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Transformers" hottie Megan Fox is taking her career to Western and underwater frontiers.
Fox is in final negotiations to join Josh Brolin and John Malkovich in "Jonah Hex," Warner Bros.' action Western based on the DC Comics character. She also is attached to star in and develop "Fathom," Fox Atomic's comic book-based underwater adventure. I can hear Jay screaming in horror already. ;D I think she'd be perfect for Fathom, though.

*sigh*
I can't take this up and down roller coaster ride with this Jonah Hex movie news! Good news, bad news. Good news, bad news... It's killing me!!!
Who knows, right? Maybe the director will pull something out of Megan that we haven't seen in her performances to date... although I doubt it... But a "love interest"? Man. I'm not sure if this director "gets it" after all...
*sigh*
I couldn't agree with you more that she would be ideal for Fathom though.

In the recent issues of Hex that I've read, there is something of a sexual tension evident when he is interacting with some female characters. I would not describe it as 'love interest', but I'm sure whoever is the copywriter for the studio would describe it that way. What I'm saying is that I'm sure the director didn't write that brief description. Also, she's a co-winner for the Teen Choice Awards Choice Liplock for 2007 with Shia LaBoof. How can you go wrong with a resume like that?!

I should clarify a few things like I did on the show:
Unlike the Punisher, I do see room for something like a love story in a Jonah Hex movie IF IT'S HANDLED RIGHT... which PROBABLY won't happen, so therefor I would rather they just leave that alone. In my jaded opinion (IMJO), I'm betting that it's probably going to end up like the Lexi Punisher movie, where Jonah will likely be portrayed as a murderer with a heart of gold that only she can get to, or something equally cliched.
If they HAVE to have their precious romantic subplot in the first or only Jonah movie, I would rather see the twisted dynamic between him and the character Tallulah Black. Until you get to know Jonah, the actual "love" stories of his marriage to Mei Ling whom he has a son with (a decade after becoming a bounty hunter), and his twilight years relationship with his Comanche wife Tall Bird, wouldn't really have any resonance! It's not until you take in a decade of horror that is Jonah's life, that the respite of love holds any weight... which I don't think will be accomplished in a single movie.
That being said, the Tallulah relationship is likely a little too complex for most Hollywood producers though (especially the WB folk, and especially with a "comic book movie"), so it's probably going to more closely resemble the traditional western/generic Hollywood dynamic, with a rushed composite of Jonah relationships in the comics.
FINALLY, as I mentioned already on the forum and the show, of course it's possible that Megan may deliver a surprisingly amazing performance with the right script and direction... However, since that can be said about every single actor out there including Pauly Shore, we have to go with what we have seen to date. With Megan, we DO have evidence of her being a bad actress (like Pauly). So IF they HAVE to have their romantic subplot, and IF it was handled in a way that is true to the Jonah Hex comics, why not go with an actress who we KNOW will deliver a great performance? There are even talented actresses out there that are at least as attractive as Megan that could likely act circles around her. I'm just tired of casting being based on popularity contests instead of being best for the role/movie.

Lets see. An obscure cowboy comic movie starring Josh brolin and megan Fox neither of whom could carry a movie with a rope and a forklift? Hmm?
Okay, really? What's the punch line?

Well Dee, I hope it's not a "cowboy movie" as Jonah isn't really a "cowboy comic". It's more of a gothic western. "Cowboy" has connotations of John Wayne in a big white hat, rounding up cattle rustlers with his crazy, old coot of a sidekick Gabby. That's not really what Jonah Hex is like at all. Think more along the lines of the Man With No Name meets Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man. As for Brolin, although he wasn't my first choice, I think he'd actually do a great job if the script and direction were right. His part in No Country for Old Men gives us a glimpse of his potential. Clarification from Jimmy Palmiotti on the Jonah movie: "First thing first…I want to talk about the JONAH HEX film. I do know something about the behind the scenes of it all because, as I mentioned before, one of the producers, Andy Lazar, is actually an old friend of mine. Because of this, I actually get information on a regular basis that is filled with facts... ... what I do know for sure is the casting of MEGAN FOX. This is true, she will be in the Hex movie and that along with the addition of John Malkovich playing Turnbull, well, it’s a pretty awesome thing. I can’t say enough how happy I am with the choices being made on this feature. So far, from producers to actors and now director, Justin and I couldn’t be happier. I think this will be a film we get to see Megan really break out as an actress. What isn’t true and will probably make the fans of the character lose their lunch is the “voodoo practitioner raising an army of the undead” part. Not true on any level, so stop worrying. Really… you can all relax now. AGAIN… there is no voodoo dude raising the dead to liberate the South kind of silliness going on at all in this film. I really wanted to clear this up because I spent the last few days at MegaCon being asked a million questions about the Hex movie and throwing this out in my column is a lot easier than losing my voice." Well, I'm relieved that they won't be doing the supernatural thing. Although it makes the occasional appearance in the comics, I would rather the film avoid the hocus pocus. As for Megan... I'm still not convinced, but Jimmy seems pretty happy with her, so I'll try to reserve judgement... I'll try real hard...

A little more from the CBR feature article: Finally, what are your views on the upcoming movie starring Josh Brolin, John Malkovich and Megan Fox? And more specifically, what do you think the movie means to your comic book series?JG: They seem to have breathed life into each other. Jonah Hex as a film property was dormant for over a decade and even then they were putting out a script that wasn’t true to the character. The DC comic and character created by [John] Albano and De Zuniga was unpublished for even longer. As it stands now, the film is poised to give a wider audience exposure to “Jonah Hex” with the kind of star power and talent the creators deserve. Naturally, we’d like to see Megan Fox play Tallulah Black but that’s because we love the character and have a desire to see her thrive beyond the comic. That being said, we both feel the film is in great hands with people that respect and like the character. JP: I couldn’t be happier with the choice of director, producers and the actors announced so far. We’ve gotten sneak peaks behind the scenes and I got to tell you, this movie has gotten me worked up. Sure it would be smart for them to put Tallulah into the movie and who knows, maybe the case of whisky I sent to Warner Bros. might have some influence on them.

HERE'S Megan in what appears to be a saloon strumpet's attire under the robe. Well, judging by the pic, it looks like Megan will be a saloon girl... and in the comics, Jonah frequently hooks up with these ladies of the evening, strictly for medicinal purposes mind you... These women even have interesting roles in the comic, often providing the insight and perspective that Hex can't or doesn't... but these roles in the comic, are fleeting at best, often remaining nameless, as Hex would likely prefer it... I somehow doubt that Megan's role will be that diminished though, considering she apparently is in demand and likely cost them a pretty penny to acquire, so I'm still expecting the "hooker with a heart of gold gets to the softer side of the killer with a heart of gold" approach to their relationship... but I'm still straining to reserve judgement... It's getting a little painful though.

Megan Fox is undeniably gorgeous, but I can't buy into her being a "saloon gal". She doesn't have that hard edge that working girls have. Might I humbly suggest Ms Fairuza Balk? She's beautiful but has that slightly rough around the edges look...and she's known to portray rather damaged characters as well.
