Well, I guess it's safe to give up hope of seeing the Wolfman/Perez Judas Contract story adapted into an animated feature as the WB has announced the next project after Green Lantern's First Flight: "Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics will follow this summer’s Green Lantern: First Flight with Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, based on the 2003-2004 comic-book storyline by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness." "The official synopsis appears to follow the source material ... pretty closely, with President Lex Luthor claiming that a kryptonite asteroid heading toward Earth is part of a sinister plot by Superman. Luthor then offers a $1 billion bounty for the Man of Steel and his “partner in crime” Batman."

I didn't read that story so it may very well be worthy of an animated tale, BUT; haven't we seen enough Batman ans Superman (the answer here is 'no', of course)? I mean after Green Lantern, why not The Flash? Hawkman? Green Arrow (The Longbow Hunters, Anyone?)? I mean, they really need to take a look around and start getting behind all of their other potential stars so that, 10-15-20 years from now, they aren't relying only on Superman and Batman.

It was pretty popular--one of my personal favs. They must have felt it was a guaranteed return on investment and crowd pleaser. Loeb/McGuinness was a pretty lethal combination--I'm interested to see if they pattern the character design after McGuinness' pseudo Capcom-esque style.

I agree with both of you. Could DC/WB benefit from more of a JLA Unlimited approach to these direct to DVD releases? I think so. Having a rich tapestry that fan fav's like Sup's and Bat's can fit into could be fun, but they're definitely going to make more money off of the big two.
I actually finally picked this TPB up the other day, not knowing it would be on deck for the DVD treatment. I've enjoyed most of the series and was going to just get the Pacheco & Merino collection, but figured WTH, I'll start at the beginning. Normally, I don't like Loeb's writing when he isn't working with Sale, but this is a rare exception where his style sort of fits with the relatively simple story telling and fun action/art.
Speaking of which, I'm with you Manny: I hope they ape McGuinness' style for the animation too. It's well suited for it already.

Sounds cool!
Mike's right, though: a Green Arrow flick would be sweet! I'm all for them making more movies based on the non-top tier characters, and there's always the opportunity add those guys in as cameos. Not character they make a movie on needs to exist in his own continuity.
I'd also like to see less origin-based storylines in these Marvel and DC animated flicks. I always liked the superhero movies where the main character is already well into his crime fighting career, with an origin that's more hinted at then spelled out.

Green Arrow would be great. If you haven't read the Andy Diggle/Jock Green Arrow Year One mini, it just came out in TPB and could be pretty closely adapted... Although a bigger fan of the character who is more familiar with the first origins than I, may prefer a different approach. Can you imagine if Batman Year One was done almost EXACTLY like the Miller/Mazzucchelli book!? The script could be nearly identical, and I'm confident that if Bruce Tim's crew couldn't mimic Mazzucchelli's style, a European animation studio could. That would be soooooo friggin' sweet. Or how about Sale & Loeb's Superman: A Man For All Seasons, done in a watercolour style like the original art! Something that would look kind of like When the Wind Blows (a great, but horribly depressing movie by the way). Man, that would be purty.

Found another link: rutube.ru/tracks/1913675.html?v=c5f0fb9d5b30db8ca40e8d410f9760d1~ I'm a tiny bit disappointed with respects to the animation quality. Maybe my expectations were way out of line, but I was hoping for something a little less "Saturday Morning" and a little more "Ghost in the Shell/Akira". What's wrong with swinging for the fences with direct to video stuff anyway? Bah... I'll probably buy it regardless. ;D

I can definitely see the McGuinness look to the two main characters, anyway. I think I will enjoy this although, like J, I would love to see them tackle more deserving storylines.
