For fans of Criminal, 100 Bullets, Parker or the Crime/Noir genre in general, Torpedo gives us some old school mob stories revolving around a tough-as-nails character whom the book is named after. It features writing from Enrique Sánchez Abulí and art from comics legends Alex Toth (just the first couple stories)... ...and Jordi Bernet (for the lion's share). I think this is the first time that much of this well lauded European series has appeared in English, thanks in part to none other than Mr. Jimmy Palmiotti who provided translations! It goes without saying that Toth's work is impeccable and elegant. While unfortunate that the entire run isn't illustrated by him, having Jordi Bernet fill the roll is no small accomplishment. Although I enjoy his frequent work on the current Jonah Hex series, I think this is some of his best work by far. Hints of Toth meld with a dash of Guy Davis and something like Kubert's (Sr.) loose and expressive style for a brilliantly beautiful book. As one would expect from mob crime stories, dames, double-crosses and vicious murder abound. IDW has given us a real treat in this hard cover and I recommend it without having even finished the entire book yet myself!

I just had a back-n-forth with Jimmy Palmiotti on Twitter because he didn't know it was out yet and had yet to receive a copy.
