It appears so in this article from Newsarama'After months of little or no news about the Warner Bros. film, Superhero Hype spotted an item on visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas' blog that said Green Lantern was greenlit and will start filming in March. ' 'Helmed by director Casino Royale's Martin Campbell, the movie has a reported budget of $150 million. Currently scheduled for a 2011 release, Green Lantern tells the story of ring-wielding superhero Hal Jordan in a script written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Guggenheim, who recently left the writing staff of ABC Television show FlashForward, is also the upcoming writer on Action Comics for DC, while Green recently co-wrote the company's Superman/Batman title and is now writing the relaunch of the Fantastic Four film franchise for Marvel Studios. Guggenheim told Newsarama in 2008 that because the writers are involved with comics, the script is "not only a respectful approach to the character, but it's a loving approach to the entire mythos."' --------------------------------------------- hmmm, interesting!

I thought the green-light was prior to hiring actors.

Throw on the brakes, looks like 23 year old Blake Lively has been cast as Carol Ferris. I will try to explain my hostility towards this casting in pictures: First, here are some pictures of Carol Ferris as she has appeared in many different comics; Second, here is a photo if Blake Lively; Now, I can understand why they would feel forced to with a very young blonde actress since there is certainly a lack of dark haired beauties in Hollywood these days... ...and that's just for starters. Oh and here's Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl, the same tv show where they found Blake Lively. Arrgh, now I know how J feels about Jonah Hex.

You know they have this thing you can do to your hair... called "dye". Perhaps she had the best audition? Maybe the other actresses (sorry--actors) had no interest? Is hair colour really the biggest issue? I seem to recall Sienna Miller being a blonde prior to her role in GI:JOE, FWIW.

So, you're saying when casting a movie, the casting director doesn't put hair colour as a description of the character?

Also, she's 23 fucking years old! That's 11 years younger than the guy she will be attempting to act opposite of.
I understand that hair colour is not the biggest thing considered when casting a movie but it's one of those things that should be so easy to get right. Now that they've screwed up such an easy thing to get right, maybe he's going to wear the ring on the wrong finger. Maybe he won't wear a mask. Maybe Sinestro is going to be orange skinned. Maybe Kilowog can be really small instead of really big and speak with a British accent instead of Brooklyn. I mean, these are all really small insignificant things, right?
Part of the charm of Carol Ferris is that she is not a Hollywood bimbo. She is a raven haired, beautiful (in a mature way) business woman. Hal is supposed to make her jealous with all of the bimbos he dates. Now she is a bimbo herself.
Doesn't work.

So, you're saying when casting a movie, the casting director doesn't put hair colour as a description of the character? Are you kidding me? Are you saying hair colour is most important, rather than the quality of actor? In the entire history of theatre, television, and film... HAIR is the absolute most important quality a casting director worries themselves over? Her age is as irrelevant as well as hair colour and you're making it out to be some vapid character without even considering her work--and who knows, maybe she tested the best with Reynolds. And maybe the other actor's aren't interested? I think you're getting a wee bit worked up over something inconsequential, rather than something significantly more tangible and ridiculous like getting Joey Buttafuoco to play Hal Jordan. I mean, if you really want to complain, why not bitch about Reynold's complete lack of experience as a test pilot? I mean, he's CANADIAN! What would HE know about being an American, dammit? LOL.

I was worried about the casting when I first heard the news, but I think she can pull it off. I can see her getting down from an airjet, taking off her helmet and saying: "Try to top that High Ball" to Ryan Reynolds I'm gonna stay positive for the movie.
