Surely they see the paradox. The ripple cannot exist unless the LHC becomes active. If the ripple exists, then the LHC will work regardless. If the LHC doesn't work, there will be no ripple. ;D

I think it would only be a paradox if we're talking about singular, linear time. In a state of infinite possibilities, the LHC works and doesn't work in every conceivable manner simultaneously already, right now and in the future. Going back in time (time traveling saboteurs or nature keeping balance in the universe) and altering the behaviour of the LHC is just another reality where the ripple doesn't take place. That doesn't mean it hasn't/isn't/won't be taking place at all though. It just means it's taking place in a parallel reality where the saboteurs or nature didn't alter history... or something... I'll have to consult some Star Trek to verify my theories.

I agree with J on this. Coming back in time doesn't erase your future it just creates a new future where you went back in time.
