I've been following the book-on-tape version of this classic Bradbury novel for a few weeks now and synchronicity brought out the graphic novel adaptation from Tim Hamilton right around the same time so naturally I picked it up. Like Marion Mousse's adaptation of Frankenstein, Fahrenheit 451 does a remarkable job of capturing the essence of a literary classic (of course, like any adaption, I wouldn't recommend it as a replacement for, but as another perspective on the original.) Anyone who has found themselves worrying about or lamenting the dumbing down of society will find these fears played out into a dystopian reality where the mass populace is mollified by passive media while being convinced of the evils in being intellectually challenged. Free thought is not only frowned on and found socially distasteful, but is punished by law. As I get older I find it's not so much the slasher maniacs out there that plant fear in my heart... it's cautionary stories like this. Regardless of whether you've read the original or not, I would recommend checking out this fantastic graphic novel adaption of one of Ray Bradbury's greatest works.
