Yeah, not a great return to gaming! Michael, I know a guy here in Fredericton who has an impressive library like yours. He doesn't even game all that much anymore, but loves reading the stories and studying the systems. Apparently there are a couple of 6' bookcases and a few milk crates with volumes upon volumes packed into them. Dude should design his own game with all that reference material! Were you guys thinking of moving back here Manny? If/when you do, I will definitely hold you to hosting a game. In fact, I'll start practicing my gnome voice now. ;D

Well, let's just say (for the sake of being superstitious and not wanting to "jinx" anything) we very well could be back in Fredericton by September/October... IF (and that's a BIIIIIG if) luck favors us, the planets align, the wind is at our backs and the god(s) smile upon us. *Knock on wood*
The wife had a job interview in F'ton during our vacation last month... there are only two people applying (her and another--coincidentally, both candidates are in Ottawa). She tested in the upper 90th percentile, so it all comes down to the results of the job interview. We were even looking at houses there, in case.
The very fact that this is the absolute closest we've come to finding an opportunity for a job transfer for her, it's going to hurt if we don't get it. ;D Reality TV doesn't get more intense than this. LOL.
Needless to say we need all the positive thoughts/energy/prayers as we can get. ;D
So if it happens, I'll be more than happy to host a big honking RPG party at our place*
* Conditions apply. Only valid in the province of New Brunswick. Offer expires September 2009

I'm not trying to put salt on the wound, but we almost have too many games going at one time around here. Tonight, Sunday, I am starting an old school multi-session old school feel game with 2nd edition AD&D. I wish you guys were around here, the bad thing is that we don't get too many good players. We have great DM's, but they only want to run stuff and we have little in the way of good players.
Right now we are playing with a guy who is from the old school camp where the rules are followed like the Ten Commandments. Any stray from the adherence to the rules was met with swift retribution and hatred. It SUCKED. I have been in games like you mentioned where nothing really happens. I understand that sometimes when you are playing a long campaign and things get pretty detailed that you can't have action all the time, but if you were only in town for two nights and they wanted to include you, you should have been focused on in my opinion. I would have given you the reigns to lead the party around. Possibly a map to some underground hideout, or a book with a spell that once read aloud will transport the party to a new area of the world, previously unexplored. Something like that. Throw the fucking new kids in the group a damn bone and get him to step up like a champion. They were douche bags and if you're in Minneapolis and you want to join in our game, trust me, you will get focused on and things will happen. So stop by any Wednesday night or Sunday night and join in the fun.
I like this thread. It's weird to talk to people around here about roleplaying. Isn't it always the case that the people who are distant are the most interested in the things that you want to do. The friends who live close are too much into football on Sundays to be able to make it to gaming. It's a strange strange world.

My style was mostly due to the fact that I hate memorizing tomes of rules. LOL. It makes my eyes glaze and I can't imagine running a game so strictly. It's stifling for players and really, where's the creativity? There are times where the vibe and energy of the game reaches a point where sometimes I'll fudge a roll, or bend the rules to keep momentum going. I liken it to watching an action movie: If the laws of reality applied, it'd be a boring movie.
One of the few times I actually got to play an RPG, instead of DM, was at PhoenixCon (I believe that's what it was called) at the University of New Brunswick, back when I was in High School. It was Star Wars: The RPG and there was only a small group (four players) and it was pretty awesome. The DM was a dude who really liked to let players to do their thing and wrangle them in when they were hitting walls.

Now that's some old school roleplaying stuff. I used to have a lot of those books. I still have a few of them, but only the ones I thought I needed.
Looks like you are about to venture into a realm of Star Wars, which is never bad.
Looks like fun.

I'm pretty sure I have some old D&D, AD&D books here, somewhere, as well. I know I had Robotech and RIFTS at one point, but they might be long gone.

Well, I broke down and got myself an early Xmas present: Now I just need to brush off my GM hat, cram through the holidays and see if I can get some lads interested in a game or two. ;D Attachments:
