Apparently verified on CBR's June 4th Comic Reel: THORConfirmed! We got an email from Scott Knowles, who wrote, "Brian Blessed was a speaker recently at a business event in the UK I attended (The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards in Derby) and when asked of his future endeavours mentioned that he would be playing Odin in Marvel's 'Thor' movie directed by his pal, 'Kenny.'" Thanks for the tip! Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 20, 2011.

From CBR's June 5th Comic Reel: THORWill the story be set in Asgard or here on earth? Director Kenneth Branagh was less than specific with MTV. "I think that ['Thor' stories] go through golden patches and purple patches and everyone has personal favorites," Branagh said. "There are many Thors and many accounts of the stories across nearly 50 years of the comics . We look to raid from the best." Also at MTV is a report talking about "Star Trek" actor Clifton Collins Jr. meeting with the Thunder God's plenipotentiaries. "I had a little meeting. I think I can say that much," Collins said. "['Thor' director] Kenneth Branagh is a bad-ass. I've been a fan of his as an actor and I know he's gonna be amazing as a director for this piece. Believe me, I'm itching to say all kinds of stuff." Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 20, 2011. ===================================== I'm still hoping it's a complete fantasy, with nothing happening in Midgard until the very end.

ok, the more i watch season two of true blood, the more i think they missed out on the guy who could have played thor!! the guys is a vampire norseman in the show!! Alexander Skarsgård would have been great, he's really had a big role in season two...he was also pretty good in another mini-series that if you didn't watch it is worth seeing 'Generation Kill'.

Although the announcement was almost immediately recanted, according to CBR, Variety announced that the Warriors Three have been cast: "According to Variety (from left to right), Stuart Townsend (from the Anne Rice film Queen of the Damned), Ray Stevenson (from Punisher: War Zone), and Tadanobu Asano (from Mongol) have been cast as the Warriors Three. The film is due out May 2011." (click image for more)
I'm not sure why they'd go with Ray Parks for Volstagg, but maybe he'll surprise me. I probably would have gone with John Rhys-Davies or someone along those lines.

Looks like Heimdall has been cast (got is Heroclix the other day!). CBR announced it on their Nov. 20th Comic Reel: THORSo, if the cast of the film wasn't jam-packed with talent already, Heat Vision reports actor Idris Elba has joined the cast. According to the article, he will play "Heimdall; as the guardian of Asgard, he stands on the BiFrost Bridge ready to defend the city from intruders." Elba appears to enjoy the comic book film route. He will appear in next April's "The Losers" and recently expressed an interest in "100 Bullets." Directed by Kenneth Branagh, release date: May 20th, 2011

The more I hear/see about this, the more hopeful I get. From CBR's Comic Reel: THORDirector Kenneth Branagh talks to Hero Complex about the striking a balance with the film. "It's about finding the framing style, the color palette, finding the texture and the amount of camera movement that helps celebrate and express the differences and the distinctions in those worlds. If it succeeds, it will mark this film as different ... The combination of the primitive and the sophisticated, the ancient and the modern, I think that potentially is the exciting fusion, the exciting tension in the film," says Branagh. The article also mentions everyone denying reports of tension between Anthony Hopkins and Chris Hemsworth. "At this stage of the game what's surprising and delighting me is the way the cast, the ensemble, has fused together. It's kind of an interesting combination of very young and very experienced people and the double-up of that, it seems to me, is there is a lot of fire in the movie," says the director. Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011
