Maybe i'm blind but I don't see any talk about the new version of V thats on tv these days. Anyone? Anyone? I havnt seen it yet but would love some reviews.
As a huge fan of the old miniseries then regular series, I reallyhope this one does a great job like Battlestar Galactica did as a remake.

I saw the first episode and I loved it actually. It was a little weird to see all these no-name actors and I had a hard time getting into it. But once I turned off my brain and watched the show for the plot and ideas, I found it pretty decent. It's not going to win any awards, but I was very interested after only a few minutes, so I would say it's doing a good job. That probably means it'll be cancelled in three weeks, but so be it. TV networks these days wouldn't know a good fucking show if it slapped them in the face. All they know is reality dancing fucking shows, or CSI type shows. Pretty soon network television is going to be filled with Crime Dramas, Hospital Shows and Reality television and that's it. Where are the good shows like "Men In Trees", "Pushing Daisies" I know they are the best shows on TV for everyone, but they were written well and interesting each week. What passes for TV these days is moronic plot devices and cookie-cutter themes. It's fucking pathetic and I tend to watch Cable shows more than network stuff. Are they stupid or what?
Here's an idea. Get some good shows on the air and get some no-name actors to be in them. Then you can control the budget a little bit, instead of having to make a zillion dollars to just pay the fucking lead actor. Yeah I'm looking at you Keifer Sutherland. 21 million dollars a year asshole. Are you telling me that the show would be that bad if we had someone with a smaller ego in the role? I think not.

coffee much? hahahaha. I love survivor, big brother, amazing race... would kill turtles to be on this show! I think, tv, like music and movies goes through cycles. You have to remember, tv execs are paid to put shows on the air that a majority of people watch. Currently, a huge portion of the viewing public wants mindless entertainment versus having to invest huge segmentos of their tv time to making sure they don't miss even a single episode of say, Lost, or else your...lost. See what I did there???
Ahem.
Anyways. Just because many people like yourself enjoy a well written and produced show, others do not. And both points are valid. Unfortunately for you, me at times, and most on this board, your in the minority when it comes to the execs who put the BILLIONS of dollars of this medium on the line every day. Thankfully there IS HBO and a host of other stations that are quite easy to get that do show the more interresting programs. But your interresting is probably not the same as mine, and mine is probably not the same as Remy's. And so on and on blah blah blah blah.
My fave shows in no order would have to be: MASH Friends Sopranos Family Guy Survivor Amazing Race Saturday Night Live Late Show with David Letterman Jeopardy Rome....which was way too short.
and on and on of course.

I agree, we all have our own likes and dislikes, but there has to be a point where things get a little over saturated...right? I mean how many CSI's are there? How many Law and Orders are there? If you add up the Reality Shows, Crime Dramas and Hospital shows on primetime TV, you would think the public would have enough of those at some point. ER ended for a reason, it was stale and boring and everybody doing it was SICK of doing it. I watch reality TV too, I really do, I watch "Storm Chasers", "Deadliest Catch", "American Chopper" (which kind of sucks now) and many others, along with sitcoms. I love Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, and The Office.
I am a very open person when it comes to TV actually, I like it all really. But the overinflated budgets on some of these shows has got to stop so they can take risks on other shows. Paying David Letterman 24 million a year is pretty insane, don't ya think? I know he's good and I watch him all the time, but he's not 24 million a year good. At least not to me. Give him 10 million and use the other 14 million to give me less commercials or more ORIGINAL shows. Remember "Northern Exposure" now that was a great fucking show. Nothing else like it on TV and it was a huge hit.
Some of the best shows are on TV right now, including "Supernatural", "Chuck" (which nearly died because of money issues, probably paying Leno too much to do his new crappy 9pm every week night show). Do we really need this lineup from NBC? Leno, O'Brien and Fallon. Come on people, we don't need THREE talk shows at night. If I was NBC, I would have told Leno, either stick with The Tonight Show, or move aside and let the younger boys play on the field. Conan is awesome and Jimmy Fallon and getting there (he sucks right now, but Conan sucked his first year too, so I'll give him a chance). Leno is sucking on NBC's tit and costing the network too much money which could be spent on GOOD shows like Chuck and My Name Is Earl and Scrubs. Which all either got canceled or just barely made it because of NBC's need to pay Leno 20 million a year.
Can't we have it both ways with primetime television. Can't we have our Crime Dramas and Talk Shows along with shows that might not make millions and only make 100's of thousands. Keep Chuck on the air because it's GOOD not because it only makes 1.5 million a year in profit. That's the problem with network television that they could learn from Cable networks. A TV show doesn't have to make TONS of money to earn a slot in your lineup. What needs to happen is it needs to be good and talked about, then the other shows which DO make money on your network get watched. Don't think for a second that 2 1/2 Men makes a nickel for CBS, Charlie Sheen in the highest paid actor on TV almost. They have that show to draw people to CBS, period.
Reality TV shows don't draw people to a network. The people, like me, don't care what channel it's on, we just flip to it and enjoy ourselves. When you have good shows, well written shows, you draw people to your network who might want to check out another show on the same network. Sci-Fi works that way all the time. Battlestar Galactica didn't make a penny for Sci-Fi when it was on, they are making the money now, in re-runs and DVD sales, along with publicity and future shows. That show, along with Stargate, put Sci-fi on the map. There are people that watch that network because of those shows, not because it's sci-fi.
You are right though, network television does focus on trends and right now shows like "Dancing with the washed up stars" and "The Amazing Race" are what people want. I completely agree with you on the shows that are on "right now" that they
need to be brainless reality shows, it's easy to switch these off and on again on a weekly basis. However if you feed the masses crappy shows long enough, then we start to think reality shows are GOOD. And lets all be honest here, they really aren't good. They are cheap entertainment meant to fill slots in networks schedules so they have something new to show you each week.
I don't think "dancing with the washed up stars" would have made ANY networks prime time list even ten years ago. If you would have tried to pitch that idea to executives more than ten years ago, you would have probably been laughed out of the office.
I guess what I was trying to say with my post before is I WANT SOME WELL WRITTEN DIFFERENT SHOWS ON NETWORK TELEVISION. Give me something I haven't seen TOO many times before. How many murders can be solved each week on network TV. I guess not enough, they still crank those shows out every week and we gobble them up like mindless lemmings.
NOTE - I am not for one second saying I don't watch these shows. I used to love Law and Order Criminal Intent when it was something new on TV. But I kind of got over that when I started solving the crimes before the 15 minute mark every week because there are only so many ways to show me the evidence and try and fool me before I just figure the shit out and ruin the show for myself.
ANOTHER NOTE - I love talking about stuff like this, can you tell and I don't even drink coffee.

Back to V. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't that damned good either. Definitely not good enough to hold your attention enough to wait until march to see the rest. Flashforward is a different matter entirely. And what? Not a single rat was eaten during the the V mini season? What's up with that? That was one of the highlights of the original. If sexy alien boss lady had deep throated a rat I'd be waiting for march with baited breath. Dee
