"CN has officially announced that the series Brave & the Bold will debut on Friday, November 14th at 7:30 pm. CN’s release reads:

BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD (TV-Y-7)
Premieres Friday, November 14, 7:30 p.m. (ET, PT)
Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation present the latest interpretation of the classic Batman franchise, premiering Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT). The Caped Crusader is teamed up with heroes from across the DC Universe, delivering nonstop action and adventure with a touch of comic relief. Blue Beetle, Green Arrow, Aquaman and countless others will get a chance to uphold justice alongside Batman. Though still based in Gotham City, Batman will frequently find himself outside city limits, facing situations that are both unfamiliar and exhilarating. With formidable foes around every corner, Batman will still rely on his stealth, resourcefulness and limitless supply of cool gadgets to bring justice home.

The new series will be a break from the continuity of the previous series, and will be, as evidenced by the rating, aimed at a younger audience.



...the series will not have Commissioner Gordon, Robin, Alfred or, at the time of the SDCC panel, the Joker; but will feature guest stars and villains from across the DC Universe including those mentioned above as well as: Black Canary, the Atom, Adam Strange, Flash, Booster Gold, Deadman, Doctor Fate, Fire, Firestorm, the Green Lantern Corps, Guy Gardner, the Justice Society of America, Jonah Hex (woo-hoo!), Kamandi, Huntress, Metamorpho, Red Tornado, Wildcat, Gentleman Ghost, Calendar Man, Cavalier, Clock King, Despero, Sportsmaster, Zebra Man, and a fan-favorite “A-list” DC character."

“I’m calling in a big, Saturday morning bowl of cereal. It definitely harkens back to simpler times,” producer James Tucker told CBR News.

The whole idea every new time Batman comes around is how to do a different thing,” Tucker said. “My thought going into this series wasn’t another ‘Batman: The Animated Series’

I basically wanted to take the energy of the Teen Titans cartoon and put it on top of an old comic book. You have the dynamic action of anime with character designs that are simplified and look like they’re hand inked and lifted out of a ‘50s comic book.”

The flavor of ‘Batman: The Brave & The Bold’ is Batman on everyone else’s turf,” Tucker said. “It’s Batman in outer space. Batman under the sea. Batman in another dimension. Batman in the past. Batman in the future. So it was pretty much Batman fitting into any environment and still being cool. It’s a lot more fantasy-based than the more gritty, realistic versions of Batman that have come before.

The idea behind this show is that ‘Yeah, it’s a team-up show, but the team ups have to bring out some element of Batman’s personality that we haven’t seen,

[In each episode] there’s a teaser — the teaser is a stand-alone, mini-episode of Batman teaming up with a character,” Tucker explained. “Then we’ll run the main title, and after the main title, that’s the main episode. And the main episode has nothing to do with the teaser for the most part. Some have a little trickle over, but for the most part the teasers are little three-minute episodes in and of themselves.

The humor that’s there doesn’t overpower the story,” he said. “I’m all for Adam West’s Batman. I have a lot of fondness for that show, but this show isn’t trying to mimic that.

With ‘Brave & The Bold’ we’re just starting from scratch. There’s no connection to any of those earlier shows,” Tucker confirmed. “The show itself is simple. I equate it to a ‘60s ‘Space Ghost’ show where there wasn’t any continuity from episode to episode."


Looks like they're aiming for a November 14th premier! Woo-hoo!

So did anyone else see the first episode? I did and I loved it. It's not Batman TAS mind you... but I think that's one of the reasons I liked it so much. The "dark" (there's that four letter word again) take on Batman (and most other superhero characters) are abundant and so it's a breath of fresh air to see another angle on this multifaceted character.
The series is definitely aimed at much younger viewers, but doesn't alienate the more open-minded older viewers. That being said, if you're hung up on angst and disturbing grittiness as being a measure of quality in your superheroes, than this DEFINITELY is not for you. The opening sequence of Batman scaling a wall like Adam West should be enough evidence of this.
It's fun, well animated and will feature a wild variety of obscure-ish DC characters alongside the world's greatest detective.
I especially like the format of a short mini episode at the top of each show. Very cool! Anyway, there is a sneak peek at CBR HERE for those of you who missed it, as well as low-rez YouTube files that haven't been taken down. Otherwise, watch your local listings for a re-airing of the first or future airings of new episodes!

Really cool couple of Batman: Brave and the Bold episodes. Two-parter featuring a very interesting take on the Joker.
