ALL MUSIC!!! Beirut is a great pop(ish) band from New Mexico that draws inspiration from Western European folk music: When I told my local record peddler I really enjoyed Beirut, he threw this Icelandic band my way. Storsveit Nix Noltes (the Story of Nick Nolte?) brings traditional Bulgarian folk music to a new generation: The Dirty Projectors are a somewhat experimental group with remarkable vocal harmonies from Brooklyn. I first came across them (and Beirut) on the "Dark was the Night" compilation from the Red Hot Organization where they recorded with David Byrne of the Talking Heads. They're also apparently working with Bjork on something interesting from the look of these videos. The following video is from neither of those projects, but from their newest full length "Bitte Orca": Since I mentioned the Talking Heads:

Say what you want about Bobby McFerrin, but the man has an amazing ear for music and this little experiment is fantastic: Land of Talk - Sea Foam I've wanted one of these since I was a kid: I wonder if this guy is in jail now? -- Apparently there is some debate over the validity of Max & his hacks.
